Building Connections Through Heritage
The Roman Roads Research Association (RRRA) is proud to collaborate with a wide range of community groups, historical societies, and specialist organisations.
These partnerships strengthen our research, help preserve local heritage, and bring together people who share a passion for uncovering the past. Below you will find some of the groups and organisations we work with.
FFWAP – Fridaythorpe Fimber and Wetwang Archaeological Project
A community-led initiative in East Yorkshire that investigates the archaeology of the Roman and early medieval landscape around Fridaythorpe, Fimber, and Wetwang. The project brings together volunteers, specialists, and local residents to uncover and interpret the rich history of this area.
WYAS – West Riding Archaeological Services
Part of West Yorkshire Joint Services | Specialist Services, WYAS provides professional archaeological and heritage services to both the public and private sectors. Their expertise supports community projects, development-led archaeology, and the protection of historic sites across the region.
BAG – Brigstock Archaeological Group
An active local society in Northamptonshire that undertakes research, survey, and excavation to better understand the archaeology of Brigstock and its surrounding area. The group works closely with residents and heritage bodies to record and interpret the past.
Holystone History and Archaeological Group – Northumberland
A local history and archaeology group dedicated to uncovering and preserving the heritage of Holystone and its surrounding landscape. Their work includes research into the Roman and medieval past of the area.
SCAG – Southwell Community Archaeological Group
Based in Nottinghamshire, SCAG promotes the study of local archaeology and heritage through fieldwork, research, and community engagement. The group provides opportunities for members of all backgrounds to get involved in archaeological projects and training.
THS – Tadcaster Historical Society
Dedicated to recording and preserving the history of Tadcaster, a market town in North Yorkshire with Roman and medieval roots. The society organises talks, research projects, and publications that highlight the town’s important past.
PRVP – Petuaria ReVisited Project
This community archaeology project explores the Roman settlement of Petuaria (modern-day Brough in East Yorkshire). Through excavation and research, the group is rediscovering the story of this important Roman town and involving the local community in the process.
Devils Causeway Group
A community heritage group focused on the study and preservation of the Devil’s Causeway, a Roman road that runs through Northumberland. The group investigates the archaeology of the route and works to raise awareness of its importance in the Roman transport network.
The Battle of Stamford Bridge Heritage Society
A heritage society that commemorates and researches the pivotal Battle of Stamford Bridge in 1066, a turning point in English history. Through education, re-enactment, and research, the society promotes greater understanding of this dramatic moment in the past.
